The concept of rays holds profound significance in spiritual and metaphysical thought, representing a fundamental connection between the divine source and manifested existence. These rays are not merely physical light but represent spiritual energies that bridge different planes of consciousness.
At their most fundamental level, rays emanate from a Singular Divine Source. This primordial ray:
“Drops one solitary ray into the waters”
… which then differentiates into multiple rays while maintaining its essential unity.
Just as white light splits into seven prismatic colors when refracted, this original ray expands into seven distinct rays on the “plane of illusion,” yet can be resolved back to unity.
This sevenfold nature of rays appears consistently across various metaphysical traditions.
The “Seven Rays” are named Sushumna, Harikesa, Viswakarman, Viswatryarchas, Sannaddha, Sarvavasu and Swaraj. These rays spread through the solar system, forming the physical foundation for phenomena like light, heat, and electricity in our world.
- Spiritually, these rays operate on multiple levels of existence
While their physical effects manifest on the terrestrial plane, their psychic and spiritual influences originate from higher dimensions (what occultists call – Akasha). This establishes a continuum where spiritual energies cascade downward through increasingly material planes.
- The Sushumna ray holds special significance, particularly in relation to the moon
The adepts of ancient traditions possessed comprehensive knowledge of light’s occult properties and its correlations with mental, psychic, and spiritual forces.
- These rays also relate to human spiritual evolution.
The “Central Spiritual Sun” radiates seven distinct rays, with each Dhyan Chohan (or adept) belonging to one of these seven classes. They are guided, controlled, and overshadowed by one of the seven forms or manifestations of the divine Wisdom. This classification system underlies spiritual hierarchies and development paths.
- In human experience, rays facilitate spiritual perception and development
Through self-discipline and purification, individuals can attain glimpses of eternal truths by aligning with these rays.
“We can reach the Sun of Truth even on our earth, but this process involves transcending the physical mind and awakening higher spiritual faculties.”
The metaphysical understanding of rays provides a framework for comprehending phenomena that is hard to explain. While conventional science focuses on physical forces, the occult perspective recognizes these rays as manifestations of deeper spiritual realities that connect all planes of existence, from the most ethereal to the densely material.
This RAY-BASED COSMOLOGY offers a comprehensive model for understanding the relationship between spirit and matter, consciousness and form, unity and multiplicity – revealing how the singular divine essence radiates through successive planes to create the complex tapestry of existence that we experience.
